Claressa Shields"Brother was charged for the violent attack on Ivana HabazinThe coach who participated in their fight earlier this month … and he now risks 10 years behind bars for the crime.
As we reported previously, 68 years old James Ali Bashir was caught off guard at the Shields-Habazin weigh-in on October 4th in Flint, Michigan, after things got worse during the promotion of the fight.
Bashir was seriously injured – he was taken from the arena to the hospital and required surgery – and all the altercation resulted in the cancellation of the mega boxing match.
The attorneys of Genessee County now say that they have caught the man responsible for the punch … and say that he is the brother of Shields, 28 year old Artis Mack.
According to prosecutors, Mack would have been seen by police fleeing after the punch … and after following him to a nearby neighborhood, they stopped him.
On Wednesday, they announced that they had hit him with a charge of assault with intent to cause great bodily injury … and that they were found guilty, Mack could spend up to 10 years in prison.
Mack is currently held without bail in Genesee County, Michigan.
For his part, Mack's lawyer, Frank Manley, said in a statement to the Associated Press, "a video shows an incendiary rhetoric leading to the incident likely to provide context to the alleged assault".
